8th Grade Junior
By Anna Clayborn
On February twenty-fourth, the entire eighth grade class took a field trip to American Furniture Warehouse. Back behind the sofas, beds, and chairs lies the Junior Achievement Finance Park. When they arrived, the eighth graders were given a quick introduction to the Finance Park. The Finance Park was set up like a little town with businesses that represented all of the needs and wants of life. After their introduction, all of the students were assigned a tablet. Each tablet generated a random life situation for the student. The students rotated around the businesses and learned what each service or plan entailed. For example, they learned about the costs of health insurance and the two sides of the stock market. They all took a quick break for lunch, and then they were back to the tablets. In this session, the students budgeted their individual monthly earnings and then bought items from all the different businesses within their budget. All of the students learned lots of new information on budgeting and paying taxes. Avery L (8th Grade) liked “the interactive component of the day.” Overall it was a fun and educational day.

Permanent Middle School
By Avery LeBlancMrs. Gustafson has been the middle school interim principal during the 2015-2016 school year, and has recently been hired as our permanent middle school principal. She applied for the job in January, and was interviewed on the Thursday before our four day weekend in February. She soon was appointed as the permanent middle school principal. Mrs. Gustafson had some tough competitors for the position, but since she has done such a great job with the middle school this year, she stood out from the other applicants. We are SO happy to have her here!
